#Mastodon v2.8.1 is out ๐ŸŽ‰

Among numerous fixes, there are very nice changes around how sensitive media is displayed

mastodon is written in ruby, which is supposedly a garbage collecting language, and yet my toots pass through unscathed

Updating to 2.7.4, which, of course, means shutting down the Mastodon processes because Webpack inevitably causes the entire thing to run out of memory if I don't. Whee.

Hey, y'all-- Facebook recently announced they're launching a "Patreon killer" service.

Regardless of your thoughts on Patreon, FB's alternative is TERRIBLE!

โš ๏ธ 30% gross revenue fee
โš ๏ธ Automatic LIFETIME IP rights to ANYTHING you put on the service
even if you quit!
โš ๏ธ FB wants to give discounts and freebies whenever they like, w/o creator approval, and then deduct it from creator revenue
โš ๏ธ FB will also control WHO sees your content and how many views you have

fucking lmao

the wish shopping website does not confirm e-mails when you sign up before letting you do stuff and somebody registered with my mail address

so after a password reset I can see... all of their data, including... credit card info (which, fortunately, that person has not filled yet)

a+ security, but I'm sure it's all worth it for those sweet, sweet Conversions

I can't even delete the account, there's just a "deactivate" button (the button seems to do nothing)

~=8 Character Passwords Are Dead=~

New benchmark from the Hashcat Team shows a 2080Ti GPU passing 100 Billion password guesses per second (NTLM hash).

This means that the entire keyspace, or every possible combination of:
- Upper
- Lower
- Number
- Symbol

...of an 8 character password can be guessed in:

~2.5 hours

(8x 2080Ti GPUs against NTLM Windows hash)
